What is Weathering Storms?
Weathering Storms is a HeartTouch programme that supports people experiencing spiritual crisis, experiences commonly described as psychosis, and other overwhelming inner experiences.
Through embodied mindfulness, compassionate human connection and shared exploration, participants gradually develop greater stability, resilience and confidence in navigating difficult experiences.
Overwhelming inner experiences are part of our shared human experience, but they affect each of us differently. How we experience them and how we respond to them are shaped by our unique lives, relationships and circumstances.
We all have our own vulnerabilities, strengths and capacities, and with understanding, support and the development of new embodied capacities, our relationship with these experiences can change.
Weathering Storms begins from this shared humanity. Rather than seeing people as problems to be fixed, the programme creates a safe and compassionate space where people can explore their experiences, reconnect with themselves and others, and rediscover the body's natural capacity for self-regulation.
Weathering Storms has developed through Anthony Fidler's own lived experience of spiritual crisis and experiences commonly described as psychosis, together with many years of supporting others through similar experiences. It combines the HeartTouch approach with insights gained from lived experience, long-term recovery, and dialogue with people, families and professionals seeking more compassionate and person-centred ways of understanding overwhelming inner experiences.
Today, Weathering Storms is offered through workshops, courses and support groups for people with lived experience. The programme also provides opportunities for families, clinicians and community organisations to develop a deeper understanding of overwhelming inner experiences and more compassionate ways of responding to them.
