Resource Balance: Coming Out of Chronic Stress
An embodied mindfulness course for burnout prevention and recovery.
Building a Healthy Personal Ecosystem
Have you ever felt that no matter how much you rest, you never quite recover? That each day seems to demand more than the last, until simply getting through work and everyday life begins to feel exhausting?
Our wellbeing depends upon a healthy personal ecosystem: a balance between the demands we face and the people, relationships, places and everyday activities that nourish our physical, emotional and mental resources.
When this ecosystem becomes persistently imbalanced, chronic stress and burnout can gradually develop.
Living in a State of Vigilance
While excessive workload can certainly contribute, many people become depleted not simply because they are busy, but because they rarely have the opportunity to leave a prolonged state of vigilance and return to rest, recovery.
This state of vigilance can arise in many ways: difficult workplace relationships, conflict or power struggles, unrealistic expectations, a lack of control, feeling unsupported, persistent self-doubt or fear of not being good enough. Increasingly, uncertainty about the future of work, including rapid technological change and concerns about job security, can also make it difficult to feel settled and secure.
Restoring Balance
Resource Balance workshop in London 2023
This course offers a practical embodied mindfulness approach to understanding and strengthening the personal resources that support health, resilience and sustainable wellbeing.
Rather than asking how we can continue functioning under ever-increasing demands, the course explores how balance can be restored by developing greater sensitivity to ourselves and recognising what genuinely restores us and what gradually depletes our resources.
Drawing upon embodied mindfulness, Japanese Hara Training, Qi Gong and guided reflection, participants learn to work directly with their embodied experience.
They develop the capacity to recognise the early signs of depletion, reconnect with the body's natural capacity for regulation and recovery, and cultivate a more balanced and sustainable way of responding to the demands of work and everyday life.
Where appropriate, in-person courses may also include simple, fully optional HeartTouch partner practices. These provide a safe and direct way of experiencing co-regulation and compassionate presence, complementing the embodied mindfulness practices explored throughout the course.
